Sharing a model

Publish a model with a link anyone can open in 3D, step through and build, update it with new versions, or take it down.

Share

Signed in, File › Share… (or Share on the toolbar) publishes the model on the baseplate. Give it a name, a kind (guessed from its name and tags), tags, a description and a licence, and choose its picture. Publish puts it at a link of its own, brickworks.diy/m/<id>, and in the gallery. The guidelines and terms are beside Publish.

Its build steps, its booklet's layout, its motions and what moves in it go with it, so whoever opens the link can step through it, read its booklet and play it.

The Tested mark

As a model is shared, Brickworks tests whether a person could build it:

  1. Built in its own steps, each part goes on where something holds it, and the model stands at every step.
  2. Every part is in a colour it was made in.
  3. Finished, every part is held by a stud, a joint or what catches it.
  4. No two parts pass into each other, by their real shapes.

A model that passes carries the Tested mark on its card and page. One that does not tells its owner why, on its page.

New versions

Share again from the same model and the link gets a new version; the page says Version 2 and keeps the earlier ones under Older versions, each at /m/<id>/v/<n>. Anyone who copied it sees there is a newer one.

Remixes and credit

Open in Brickworks on any model's page copies it into your own models. Share your changed copy and its page says what it was remixed from, and the original lists it under Remixes. A model from the LDraw library says who modelled it.

Take it down

From the Share panel you can take a shared model down: off its link and out of the gallery. Your saved model is untouched.

Names and words

Names, tags and words on the site are checked: abuse is refused in any of them, and names somebody else owns (a brand, a trademark) are refused in titles, tags, credits and handles.
